Jeff Bezos, one of the world's wealthiest individuals, is set to marry Lauren Sánchez in the last week of June. The couple has chosen Venice as the venue for their wedding, which is estimated to cost around $30 million and will be attended by the crème de la crème of American and international society. However, before the nuptials, the Amazon founder is finalising his prenuptial agreement to safeguard his fortune, valued at over €203 billion.
The aim is to avoid having to part with a portion of his wealth in the event of a divorce, as happened in his marriage to MacKenzie Scott, the mother of his four children, with whom he was married for 25 years. MacKenzie, who supported Bezos throughout his professional growth, received a 4% stake in Amazon, making her one of the wealthiest women in the world. According to Forbes, her current net worth exceeds €152 billion.
Prenuptial agreements are a common practice among the rich and famous and do not always focus solely on money. There are clauses addressing potential infidelities and even the frequency of marital sexual activity. This was the case for Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck. The singer of 'El anillo pa cuando' stipulated that they must engage in sexual relations more than four times a week, a clause included in their prenuptial agreement during their first engagement in the early 2000s. With or without sex, it seems it was not enough for their relationship to thrive.
More romantic are Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan, who decided to put in writing the obligation to spend at least 100 minutes alone together each week, in addition to one night out without distractions.
Compensations for infidelity are also a common feature in such agreements and were certainly included in Affleck and Lopez's: the actor was required to pay $5 million in the event of infidelity. Similarly, Justin Timberlake agreed to pay Jessica Biel $500,000 for adultery; Charlie Sheen's infidelity during his marriage to Denise Richards was valued at $4 million; and Michael Douglas's sexual addictions led Catherine Zeta-Jones to include a clause of $5 million for adultery, plus $2.8 million for each year of marriage if they divorced. They have been married for 25 years. In the case of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, what was at stake was the exclusive custody of their children.
Nicole Kidman was driven to write a commitment regarding her husband's alcohol and drug consumption to control his addictions. Thus, if Keith Urban consumes cocaine or alcohol, the actress can divorce him without any financial compensation.
A million dollars for each year of marriage was the agreement between Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, the same value as that of Beyoncé and Jay-Z, who added $5 million for each child they had together. Meanwhile, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes's marriage was valued at $3 million per year, and if they reached 10 years together, she would be entitled to half of the actor's fortune. However, the actress opted for a quick divorce and did not claim the money when she decided to separate from the actor in 2012, after six years of marriage.
Despite not having said 'I do' yet, Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez also signed an agreement after the birth of their first biological daughter together, Alana Martina, stipulating that in the event of a breakup, she would keep the house in La Finca and receive a monthly salary of €100,000, a figure that has reportedly increased following the birth of Bella Esmeralda.
