At one time, Ivonne Reyes was a staple at every variety show and competition, her broad smile lighting up the screen. The Venezuelan became a prominent figure in the 1990s, often making headlines for her romantic escapades. However, the most significant story was her clandestine relationship with Pepe Navarro, which resulted in the birth of her son, Alejandro. Despite a court ruling affirming his paternity, Navarro has never acknowledged it. Now, in her darkest hour, her son has become her mainstay, as she has lost everything. "I am ruined," she confessed in an exclusive interview with Lecturas magazine.
For the first time, Ivonne has opened up about her financial struggles, which have forced her to seek relief under the Second Chance Law to start anew. "The pandemic was the breaking point. I nearly died from sepsis, and from there, it was very difficult to recover," she explained. "I spent three years in recovery without working. I had no enthusiasm, energy, or desire to appear on shows or do advertisements; there were no projects either," she detailed. Her dire situation has led her to seek professional help: "I am undergoing psychiatric and psychological treatment."
The actress and model revealed that she made poor investments, losing "much more" than ten million euros. "I once owned three houses. Gradually, you adapt to losing them," she explained. Among other adjustments, she has resorted to using public transport and altering her shopping list to cut costs, even borrowing money from her closest circle. "I will never forget it. You don't know how important it is for someone to lend you 50 euros when you have nothing, how urgent it can be when you need it," she recounted to the magazine.
For a long time, her priority has been her son Alejandro, ensuring he received the best education possible. Now, with his studies completed ("I would never have allowed him to help me before finishing his studies," she noted), he has taken charge to move forward. "Now my son is aware of my situation, and he has taught me a life lesson," she emphasized. "He tells me to relax, that this is how it is. He has started working and helps me: as an actor, a waiter, in production, picking olives..." she proudly highlighted.
In a way, Alejandro is returning to his mother part of the fight Ivonne undertook to have his rights as Pepe Navarro's son recognized. In fact, the presenter posted the paternity ruling on her social media as a way to demand "respect" for herself and her son. "When they refer to our son, they should do so with respect. He is mine and his. He is not 'the supposed'," she concluded.
A confrontation that, according to Ivonne, has had professional repercussions: "I have gone to some networks with a signed contract to launch a program, and suddenly, hours would pass, and I would be dropped from the schedule. It has happened several times. These are not my obsessions; the people who work with me see it too," she lamented.
