Dr. Isabel Belinchón has been appointed as the new Head of Studies at the Doctor Balmis University General Hospital, succeeding Dr. Joaquín Portilla, who has stepped down after an illustrious 35-year career. Dr. Belinchón brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to education to her new role.
With over three decades of dedication to healthcare, particularly in Dermatology and Teaching, Dr. Belinchón expressed her privilege in continuing the educational mission at a hospital renowned for its excellence. She embraces this new challenge with the aim of promoting high-quality, inclusive education that meets the evolving needs of the healthcare environment.
The new role will allow her to continue contributing to the professional development of future specialists, fostering educational innovation, and helping to strengthen the reputation of Doctor Balmis Hospital as a leader in postgraduate medical education.
"I am convinced that close collaboration between medical and nursing staff, residents, administrative personnel, and the management team is essential to ensure quality training and a rich learning environment for residents," she stated.
She also expressed her gratitude to all those who have been part of her professional journey and highlighted her "continuous learning from patients, colleagues, and residents with whom she has shared experiences over the years."
The new Head of Studies is a specialist in the Dermatology Service at Doctor Balmis Hospital and a tenured professor of Dermatology at the Clinical Medicine Department of Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH).
In her teaching role, she has been a tutor for Dermatology residents for two decades, a member of the Teaching Commission for ten years, and since 2018, she has served as Vice President, now becoming President of the Commission, a position that accompanies her appointment as Head of Studies.
Notably, in 2022, the Director General of Professional Regulation at the Ministry of Health appointed her as a member of the National Commission for the specialty of Medical-Surgical Dermatology and Venereology. Since that year, she has also held the position of First Vice President of the board of the Spanish Academy of Dermatology and the board of the Healthy Skin Foundation.
In the field of research, she is the author of over 250 publications, both national and international, and has delivered more than 250 presentations and lectures at conferences. She is also the principal investigator of several projects funded by the Department of Health, the Alicante Institute for Health and Biomedical Research (ISABIAL), and a collaborating researcher on a FIS project from the Ministry of Health.
