Irene Villa and Daniel Serrato said 'I do' this Saturday at the monastery of Santa María de la Vid, in Burgos. It was a civil ceremony held in intimacy before about 150 guests who shared this special day with the couple. The rain could not dampen the event, although it did force a change of plans as they had planned to celebrate the wedding outdoors. A touching wedding where the journalist's children played a leading role.
These were Irene's second nuptials. She has three children from her first marriage with Juan Pablo Lauro: Carlos, Gael, and Eric, aged 12, 9, and 8, respectively. The children accompanied their mother along with the godfather and were responsible for asking the most important questions to the couple: "David, do you accept to marry the best mom in the world?" and "Mom, do you want to marry this cool guy?" This was one of the most emotional moments of the civil ceremony, demonstrating the good relationship between the coach's children and her new husband.
A hermetic celebration from which no images have emerged, leading to speculation about a possible exclusive. What is known thanks to an interview the bride gave to '¡Hola!' magazine is that the dress was designed by León-based designer Silvia Fernández. It was described as a "detachable" design. "I loved that word because if I am detachable, my dress should be too," she explained, showcasing her good humor and resilience.
At twelve years old, Irene Villa and her mother were victims of an ETA attack in which she lost both legs and three fingers on her left hand when a bomb attached to their vehicle exploded while they were on their way to school. Her mother also lost a leg and an arm. Far from pitying herself, she focused on her studies and sports to move forward in her new life. A collaborator in various media outlets, she documented her experiences in the book 'Knowing It's Possible,' served as Madrid delegate for the Association of Victims of Terrorism until 2007, and became a Paralympic alpine skier as part of Spain's first adapted alpine ski team. In 2011 she won the Spanish Cup in chair skiing mode and in March 2013 became Spain's Champion in slalom and national runner-up in Super Giant and giant slalom.
On a personal level, she married Juan Pablo Lauro in 2011, with whom she had three children before separating at the end of 2018. After three years sharing her life with Daniel Serrato, she crowned their relationship with an intimate civil ceremony where music was provided by Cristina Serrato, the groom's sister, and saxophonist Miguel Sueiras, husband of Leire, vocalist of La Oreja de Van Gogh. Next Saturday they will continue the celebration with a post-wedding party in Madrid where more guests and familiar faces are expected, possibly including Mónica Naranjo or Alejandro Sanz.
