José Luis Martínez-Almeida, the Mayor of Madrid, and his wife, Teresa Urquijo, welcomed their first child on Wednesday night. The baby, named Lucas in honour of his maternal grandfather, will have Juan Urquijo, the brother of the new mother and Irene Urdangarin's partner, as one of his godparents, along with a niece of the mayor.

Teresa Urquijo gave birth at the Nuestra Señora del Rosario University Hospital in Madrid's Salamanca district. The birth was initially scheduled for June 24, but on Wednesday, July 2, she had to be admitted to the hospital for an induced delivery.

Hours earlier, José Luis Martínez-Almeida attended his last public event before becoming a father, where he assured that his wife was "very calm, everything is in order." "I will work until the last minute," he added, "because that is my duty, and I believe that is what the people of Madrid expect from me—to take my paternity leave and enjoy my family, but until the birth happens, I will also be working for them," he commented on Wednesday morning.

The couple married in April 2024. Their wedding was one of the year's events, partly due to the bride's lineage as the eldest granddaughter of Princess Teresa of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, a cousin of King Juan Carlos, with whom she has always maintained a close relationship. Despite all odds, the emeritus king was among the 400 guests who attended the Church of San Francisco de Borja. Also present were Infanta Cristina with her son Juan Valentín and Infanta Elena, accompanied by her children, Froilán and Victoria Federica.

Doña Sofía went directly to the 'El Canto de la Cruz' estate in Colmenar Viejo, Madrid, owned by the bride's maternal grandparents, Princess Teresa of Bourbon-Two Sicilies and her husband, Íñigo Moreno de Arteaga, Marquis of Laserna. It was there that the reception was held, and guests were treated to dishes from the prestigious Lhardy restaurant.

After the wedding of the year, the newlyweds honeymooned in the paradisiacal Maldives and Bhutan, known as the kingdom of happiness. Upon their return, they collected gifts chosen by guests from their extensive wedding list, which included items for all budgets, from an Afghan carpet worth over 7,000 euros to a set of coasters for 14 euros, and a Cartuja de Sevilla dinnerware set valued at 1,115 euros.
