The Judicial Police of the Civil Guard in Ibiza have launched an investigation following the discovery of several migrant bodies bound hand and foot in the waters of the Balearic Islands.
Sources from the Armed Institute have confirmed the start of inquiries after several lifeless bodies were recovered, some in Formentera, with the exact number unspecified. These migrants are believed to have travelled in recent months aboard boats heading to the archipelago.
On this matter, the President of the Government, Marga Prohens, who attended an emergency drill in Sa Calobra, expressed the Executive's concern over migration issues and described the findings as chilling.
"It is the cruelest face of something we have been denouncing, which is the establishment of the route between Algeria and the Balearic Islands," she stated.
After a weekend marked by a new wave of migrant boats, Marga Prohens reiterated her call to the central government not to "leave the Balearic Islands alone" and urged for greater border protection. "A country that is unable to protect its borders needs to reconsider its stance," she added.
