The court in Ávila is investigating whether staff at Brieva prison engaged in sexual relations with Ana Julia Quezada, who is serving a life sentence for the murder of child Gabriel Cruz in 2019, in exchange for access to a mobile phone.

According to the newspaper 'El País', the court has been investigating a potential bribery offence by some officials at the women's prison in Brieva (Ávila) for nearly a year.

Reports indicate that the testimony of a prison educator aligns with those of three other inmates and a fourth woman, who is Quezada's current partner.

The reports suggest that the convict, responsible for Gabriel Cruz's murder, had sexual relations with prison staff and the cook, which she may have recorded using the mobile phone provided to her, in an attempt to blackmail the prison management and secure her transfer to Barcelona.

Additionally, one of the reports from the prison director, Laura Pérez, acknowledges having "knowledge of particularly significant information about the inmate" through an educator. "The inmate claims to have a mobile phone with a series of recordings, including video footage showing the officer in her cell," the director's report states.
