The province has weathered the first day of the storm that has put the region on alert due to strong winds. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) warned that Monday would be the worst day, as evidenced by the records.

The interior of Alicante recorded wind gusts of up to 120 kilometres per hour during the night from Monday to Tuesday. Several northern municipalities significantly exceeded 100 kilometres per hour ahead of a day when the yellow alert remains active.

Thus, Aemet maintains the warning for strong winds on the Alicante coast and in the province's interior, with gusts that could exceed 80 kilometres per hour, a mark that was surpassed during the night.

According to data from the Valencian Meteorological Association (Avamet), Villena was the municipality that recorded the highest gusts, with wind speeds of 120 kilometres per hour. Crevillent, with 108 km/h, and Alcoi, with 106 km/h, also recorded significant figures.

Several municipalities have recorded gusts over 90 kilometres. The Marina Baja or l'Alcoià are among the areas most affected by the storm, with winds ranging from 93 km/h to 105 km/h.

In fact, Villena was the fifth locality in the entire Valencian Community where the strongest wind gusts were recorded, behind Xodos, Ayora, Bunyol, and Betxi, according to Avamet's network data.

Alerts and temperature drop

Aemet warned that Monday would be the worst day of this storm with high wind gusts. However, the meteorological agency maintains the yellow alert until midnight on Tuesday, while on Wednesday these phenomena will leave the Levante to settle in the Balearic Islands.

Alicante is expected to experience a sudden change in weather, going from sunny and warm days to a drop in temperatures and rain starting Thursday, which will bring snow at altitudes above 1,000 metres.
