Intercity Reappoints Quique Hernández as Head Coach

Quique Hernández returns to CF Intercity, taking on the role of sporting director at the Alicante-based club. Hernández is back at his long-time home, where he played a crucial role in its development. He joined the club in the summer of 2020 and was the key sporting figure during two seasons in which the club achieved consecutive promotions to Primera RFEF.

Quique Hernández has managed teams such as Hércules, SD Huesca, Aris Thessaloniki, Albacete, CD Castellón, Elche CF, Córdoba, and Recreativo, among others. "Familiar with the club and the league, Quique returns home with the challenge of leading the team back to Primera RFEF. As the sporting director of CF Intercity, he is already working in the offices to build the new project for the men in black," stated the CF Intercity announcement.

Meanwhile, coach José Vicente Lledó expressed, after ending the season with a painful relegation, that "football has these moments; what remains is to forget this season and face the next with optimism to return to this league as soon as possible."

Despite being relegated since early May, the coach of the black-clad team noted that "Intercity's story was very beautiful, with a promotion each year, but now it's time to rise again."

Intercity, the first Spanish sports club listed on the stock exchange, had achieved four promotions in its first five years of history and has now suffered its first relegation since its founding in 2017.

One of the first decisions Quique Hernández will need to make is the renewal of Lledó. The Alicante coach could not prevent the relegation but has always had the support of the management, and his continuity was taken for granted. Hernández and Martí must decide soon whether he is the right choice for the bench or if he will continue in another role within the club.
