Lautaro Martínez's brilliant goal helped Inter end Bayern's 22-match unbeaten streak at home in the Champions League. The Italian team, known for its defensive solidity and attacking efficiency, delivered a masterclass in counterattacking football. Despite Bayern's chances, Inter's resilience saw them through, with the German side only holding the 1-1 for three minutes before succumbing to a powerful Inter side that aims high this season.
Bayern had a chance to take the lead 12 minutes before the Argentine striker's superb goal, but Harry Kane missed the opportunity. The English forward failed to capitalize on Olise's brilliant play, hitting the left post with a powerful shot when the Allianz Arena was already celebrating. This missed chance defined the first leg of the quarter-finals, where Inter, growing in confidence, managed to shake off Bayern's dominance and pull off a surprise in Munich.
Inter's patience paid off as they avoided falling behind due to Bayern's lack of precision. When Simone Inzaghi's side had already shown their threat, Bastoni's play set up Marcus Thuram to lay it back for Lautaro, who finished with the outside of his foot. This first goal allowed Inter to reinforce their conservative approach, which, although exaggerated after the break, was effective until Thomas Müller, shortly after coming off the bench, temporarily equalized. However, Vincent Kompany's team could not hold onto their joy, as they risked too much and were undone by Fratessi's final, decisive strike, another substitute acting as a pure centre-forward.
