A brief respite of just 24 hours was all that was afforded before another round of storms besieged the province in recent weeks. Following Jana, which brought heavy rains to Alicante over the past weekend, Konrad has taken over with a grand entrance, bringing rains with significant electrical activity that swept from south to north across the Alicante regions, unleashing with great intensity in just a few minutes. Residents of the city of Alicante witnessed an intense hailstorm that caught them by surprise in the mid-afternoon.
The Valencian Association of Meteorology (Avamet) recorded during the afternoon, measurements in Sella and Aspe that momentarily reached torrential intensity, with both municipalities exceeding 80 litres per square metre in an hour. Fortunately, this intensity lasted only a few minutes, and although the rains continue, they are now at more moderate levels.
On Tuesday afternoon, municipalities such as Sella and Aspe led in precipitation values with 31 litres per square metre in the former and 22.3 in the latter. This ranking is likely to change as the rains move north. In fact, municipalities like Polop, Callosa, and Finestrat also experienced very intense or torrential rain showers.
In the capital, the sky quickly turned black during the afternoon. The clouds were accompanied by significant electrical activity visible from some parts of the city. On the outskirts, in Rebolledo, the rain left an accumulation of 13 litres per square metre in just a few minutes, with a very strong intensity exceeding 50 litres per hour.
Konrad arrived in the province, sweeping away a nearly spring-like Monday, and is here to stay for the coming days. Thus, the people of Alicante will not be able to enjoy the beaches next weekend either. The skies will once again be overcast from this Tuesday, with unstable and rainy weather, and possible storms.
