The National Police have successfully solved a burglary at an Alcoi office offering translation services, thanks to the thief's mistakes and a key witness, as reported by TodoAlicante.
The office manager reported the break-in at the Police Station, detailing that the perpetrator had forced entry and stolen a mobile phone, cash, personal documents of a client and their family, and four accounting books.
In the initial phase of the investigation, the Police were unable to identify the perpetrator, but the case took a turn when, a few days later, the alleged thief left the stolen mobile phone at a nearby shop to have it unlocked.
The shop owner recognised the phone's owner from the wallpaper photo and informed them. The victim returned to the police station to expand their report.
The office manager was crucial. He testified to the officers that the individual who handed over the stolen device had cuts on his hands, injuries sustained from the broken glass at the office entrance.
Following investigations, it was discovered that the thief was a 54-year-old man known for his criminal record, with up to 63 previous arrests related to property and personal crimes, according to the same sources.
The notorious criminal admitted to being at the office on the day of the robbery and explained that he had left the mobile phone at a nearby shop while running errands. However, the evidence and testimonies directly implicated him in the theft.
The suspect was arrested for burglary, and the Alcoi court has released him on bail. Authorities continue to investigate whether the suspect is linked to other similar crimes in the area.
