The president of the Institute of Economic Studies of the Province of Alicante (Ineca), Nacho Amirola, stated, following Banco Sabadell's decision to return to Catalonia, that "it is evident that this is not good news for Alicante. The headquarters of such a significant bank as Banco Sabadell is a major attraction for our province, not only for what the entity represents but also because it is a great driver of investment and employment. Amirola added that the entity has positioned Alicante on the Spanish financial map and therefore, the loss of the headquarters is a blow to our image as an attractive province for large corporations."
However, he considered that "it must be understood that the bank is sovereign in its decisions to defend the interests of its shareholders, and just as it once decided it was appropriate to move the headquarters to our city, now the board of directors of the entity believes it is the right time for its social headquarters to return. This decision must evidently be respected."
Amirola recalled that Banco Sabadell in Alicante "has an important operational and technological centre, areas and jobs that we hope will be preserved and remain unaffected by this decision. Moreover, it should not be forgotten that the entity has also integrated remarkably well into our Community, participating in social and economic projects and initiatives."
The president of the institution emphasized that he hopes "in no case will Banco Sabadell cease to support Alicante both operationally and technologically, as well as socially. The province has become its home, and we would all like it to remain so."
