Penguins motorcycle gathering is one of the most significant biker events in Europe and the world. It is held annually in Valladolid during the weekend following Epiphany (6th January), attracting thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts from all over the globe.

This year, the DGT expects over 40,000 motorcyclists to attend the event, prompting the deployment of more than 150 officers to ensure safe travel.

Speed, alcohol, and drug checks, as well as monitoring of risky behaviours, will be increased around the gathering area with the help of the Civil Guard Traffic Group, a Pegasus helicopter, and several drones.

Specific surveillance will focus on risky behaviours, dangerous driving, speed checks, alcohol/drug tests, and mandatory documentation.

In addition to ground checks, aerial surveillance will be conducted with the Pegasus helicopter, which will fly over the various roads leading to the event site, along with several drones transmitting images to the Northern Traffic Management Centre in Valladolid.

Due to the scheduled activities during the gathering, from Friday, 10th January at 3:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Sunday, 12th January, the CL-610 road will be closed to traffic between kilometre points 4 and 9.8, allowing only motorcycles, public transport, and authorised vehicles. The DGT has established alternative routes in response to this temporary road closure.

Alternative Routes:

• Direction Medina del Campo to Valladolid: from Puente Duero via CL-600 towards Simancas, then Camino Viejo Simancas towards Valladolid.

• Direction Valladolid to Medina del Campo: from CL-610 exit to VA-30 ascending direction to exit to Camino Viejo Simancas and from there to CL-600 and Puente Duero.

Within the facilities hosting the motorcycle gathering, the General Directorate of Traffic has set up a stand where various informative activities for motorcyclists and awareness on the consequences of certain risky behaviours will be conducted.

Why is it called Penguins?

For several days, Valladolid becomes the world capital of motorcycles. There are concerts, activities, competitions, and a lively atmosphere both day and night. All types of motorcycles will attend, from classic to the most modern, customised and sports bikes.

Despite the event taking place in the middle of winter, when temperatures can be low, participants usually dress in colourful motorcycle gear and accessories, creating a festive and energetic atmosphere. This image of bikers braving the cold has led to the name "Penguins."
