Las Hogueras de Alicante kick off the year with significant increases in both categories and budget. The Federació has announced that the investment in fogueres exceeds 2.8 million euros for June 2025, marking a 3.2% increase for adult bonfires and a 6.6% rise for children's bonfires compared to last year. These percentages also show an increase compared to 2023, with a 10.15% and 20.26% rise, respectively.

The governing body of the Hogueras de Alicante has released these figures following the receipt of contracts from the 91 districts and their artists. They have also disclosed the number of bonfires grouped into different categories: eight for adults and seven for children.

The Special category bonfires remain at ten, the same as the first category, which has nine districts. The increase is seen in the other sections, except for the fourth and sixth, concerning adult bonfires. In the second category, the number of bonfires rises from seven to eight, with an additional seven compared to the previous year, totalling 19 bonfires for 2025.

This same number of commissions will also plant in the fifth category of the Hogueras de Alicante. Thus, with 19 districts in both sections, the Federació will propose to the City Council the division into third category A and B, as well as in the fifth, to distribute these bonfires by sectors and facilitate the jury's verdict, allowing them more time during their visit.

The decrease in bonfires is noticeable in the fourth category, which records a total of eight districts for this year, four fewer than in 2024. In the case of the sixth category, it goes from 24 bonfires last year to a dozen. According to TodoAlicante, six of them have moved up to higher categories while the other six make up the newly established seventh category.

Despite the controversy generated by the creation of this section among artists and commissions, the president of the Federació de les Fogueres de Sant Joan, David Olivares, explains that his intention is "to help commissions in worse economic situations" and celebrates that only six have opted for this option, where they can only plant for two years.

The delegate of Fogueres of the Federació, Quique Castelló, also explains to this newspaper that the seventh category of the Hogueras de Alicante aims "not to leave anyone behind" and highlights the increases in the other sections. He is also pleased with the commissions' commitment to the bonfire, with an amount exceeding three million euros, including the official bonfires in the accounts. "People invest and move up in category," he praises.

Children's bonfires by category

The children's bonfires also notice the increase compared to the previous year's records. There is a decrease in the Special category, with ten for 2025, two fewer than in 2024. However, the first category rises from 11 to 14 districts.

The second category of children's bonfires also increases from ten to twelve districts, while the third adds one more bonfire, reaching 14. The fourth category remains at 16 commissions, while the fifth gains one more, reaching 14, and the sixth decreases to eleven, three fewer than in 2024.

The increase is also noticeable in the number of festival-goers, with 2,506 new members joining an association at the end of 2024. Thus, the total number of foguerers and barraquers rises to 11,834 people. Of these, 3,000 are children.
