Benidorm City Council has strengthened its commitment to universal accessibility along the coastline by launching a new adapted bathing area for people with reduced mobility. This new space, located next to the accessible beach point at Elche Park, has been operational since this past weekend and will remain in service until October 15th, coinciding with the months of peak tourist influx and beach usage.

The initiative was presented by the Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the Councillor for Beaches, Mónica Gómez, who visited the new facility to gather first-hand impressions from users.

The installation includes an access walkway, handrails to facilitate sea entry, and a seating area in the water with a capacity for 22 people. Additionally, this area is covered with a canopy that provides shade and sun protection for bathers.

According to the mayor, "with this new bathing area, people with reduced mobility have a space adapted to their needs where they can refresh and enjoy the sea independently, complementing the adapted baths available at the accessible beach point." Toni Pérez also highlighted the functionality of the handrails, which allow for a "more practical and safer access to the sea."

The expansion of services reinforces the inclusive beach model that the municipality has been developing for years. "In Benidorm, we were pioneers in promoting accessibility services on our beaches with the opening of accessible beach points, thus ensuring that anyone can enjoy the full experience of a beach day," the mayor recalled.

During the summer season, Benidorm maintains three operational accessible beach points, located at Elche Park, opposite Mont Benidorm Avenue (both on Poniente Beach), and at the height of Murcia Street on Levante Beach. These spaces are staffed by specialized personnel from the company responsible for the comprehensive management of the coastline, tasked with assisting users in adapted baths and facilitating sea access.

Of these three points, both the one at Elche Park and the one at Levante Beach provide service throughout the year, while the third is activated during the months of highest influx. With this new adapted bathing area, Benidorm strengthens its leadership in inclusion and accessibility in sun and beach tourism.
