During this weekend, the city of Alicante will transform into a school for artists through the second 'DibujALC' sessions on illustration and comics, hosted by the Instituto Alicantino de Cultura Juan Gil-Albert and Casa Mediterráneo from May 22 to 24.

Both institutions have prepared a programme of activities based on practical demonstrations and the participation of renowned artists in the field, such as National Illustration Award winner Pablo Auladell, Goya winner Paco Sáez, Paula Alenda, Juaco Vizuete, and Amelia Navarro.

All of them share their Alicante idiosyncrasy, being born in the province. "They are prophets in their own land," remarked the Deputy of Culture, Juan de Dios Navarro, during the presentation of the sessions, also highlighting the trajectory of these artists outside Alicante.

The aim is to "focus on the excellence of the numerous artists we have in the province" and facilitate interaction with the public. Thus, the invited artists will offer conferences that go beyond the workshop, with the format of practical demonstrations to promote genres and disciplines.

Free Sessions and Classes

The second 'DibujALC' sessions on illustration and comics will commence on May 22 with the inaugural session at Casa Bardin, the headquarters of IAC Juan Gil-Albert. National Illustration Award winner Pablo Auladell will deliver a lecture at 7 PM.

Two days later, on Saturday, May 24, Casa Mediterráneo will become a school for comics and illustration. It will be at its headquarters, the old Benalúa station, where various spaces will be set up to unleash creativity, both guided and free.

In this regard, each invited illustrator will conduct two master classes free of charge, four in the morning and four in the afternoon simultaneously, at designated tables with necessary materials, upon prior registration on the IAC website bit.ly/DibujALC2 with a maximum of 20 places.

The schedule for the practical demonstrations is: from 10 AM to 12 PM with Paco Sáez and Amelia Navarro, who will repeat from 4 PM to 6 PM; and from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM and from 6:30 PM to 8 PM with Juaco Vizuete and Paula Alenda.

Additionally, as explained by the director of the IAC, Cristina Martínez, spaces for free drawing have been planned for participants, whose works can be placed in a designated area for exhibition.

Exhibition on Palestinian Comics

Casa Mediterráneo will also feature another space hosting the exhibition 'Own Voices-Collective Cry', on Palestinian comics. The show is curated by illustrator Mohamed Sabaaneh and the president of the Al Fanar Foundation, Pedro Rojo Pérez, detailed its general director, Andrés Perelló.

The exhibition brings together works by established artists such as Sabaaneh himself and Leila Abdelrazaq, alongside young talents like Iasmin Omar Ata, author of manga.
