President of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Salvador Illa, has stated that his government does not seek "any privilege" in terms of regional financing, but rather that all communities "fare well" and that there is "a balanced playing field" where no communities engage in "fiscal dumping." He expressed this during a discussion at the 15th PSPV Congress with the leader of the Valencian socialists and Minister of Science, Diana Morant.
During this roundtable, both the former Minister of Health and Morant recalled that regional financing represents "the financing of the welfare state."
Regarding Catalonia's position, Illa emphasized that the first thing his community wants is "a project of solidarity" without "any privilege." "Nothing less would do," he exclaimed. "We are leftists, we are socialists. No one has asked me in any agreement to break a principle of solidarity."

Therefore, he assured that "naturally," what the Government wants is "for everyone to fare well" in terms of financing. "But we must do it with a balanced playing field," he remarked.
In a football analogy, he denounced that "at this moment, some communities play with more players and have a bought referee." "That is called fiscal dumping and it cannot be," he emphasized.
Illa guaranteed that he will return to Valencia to explain his financing model, as part of his round of meetings with regional presidents that he has already begun in the Canary Islands.
