Swedish multinational Ikea has announced a reduction in its store hours in Spain, as reported by the Independent Trade Union Confederation Fetico.
Specifically, after months of negotiations with union representatives, Ikea has agreed to adjust hours on Sundays, holidays, and during the winter period. The company will close its stores in Spain at 9 PM during winter hours (from October 1 to April 30).
Additionally, the measure adjusts Sunday and holiday hours, with all stores operating from 10 AM to 7 PM or from 11 AM to 8 PM. On special dates such as Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, all units will close at 3 PM. On January 5, the eve of Epiphany, stores will remain open until 6 PM.
Fetico has stated that this measure represents a "substantial advance" in improving the work-life balance for the employees of the Swedish multinational.
The Secretary General of Fetico, Antonio Pérez, expressed his "satisfaction" with this agreement. "This decision demonstrates the willingness to continue working on improving working conditions and promoting a suitable work-life balance for Ikea employees, a success achieved thanks to the drive of union representation and proactive negotiation between the parties," he stated.
