Iberdrola will continue to promote Spanish sports in the upcoming Olympic cycle, culminating in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This was stated by its president, Ignacio Galán, during a meeting held today with Olympic and Paralympic athletes María Pérez, Teresa Perales, Susana Rodríguez, Sara Sorribes, Elena Congost, and Laura Ester at the company's offices in Madrid.

"You have changed the way this country thinks and acts. Today, I wanted to be with you to congratulate you and confirm that in the next Olympics, you can continue to count on us. We will support you at all levels," Galán said.

These athletes have been closely associated with the energy company for years. María Pérez, Susana Rodríguez, and Laura Ester are part of the Iberdrola Ambassadors program, through which the company aims to give maximum visibility to a selection of athletes in media and social networks, creating new role models in society.

Teresa Perales, meanwhile, is a member of the honorary jury of the Iberdrola Supera Awards, which annually recognize those who promote women's empowerment through grassroots sports.

Therefore, within the framework of this meeting, the group president announced that Sara Sorribes and Elena Congost will be new Iberdrola Ambassadors. He also presented these six women with the Iberdrola Medals for Energy in Sports, recognizing their impeccable professional careers and particularly their outstanding performance at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Following Elena Congost's controversial disqualification at the Paris Paralympic event, Galán had a special mention for the marathon runner. The Iberdrola president stated: "Elena, you have shown great competitive spirit. You sacrificed everything because people and team spirit are more important than medals or success. You helped a fellow athlete in trouble; hats off to you. We will support you to achieve all your goals."

Two Decades Promoting Equality Through Sports

Iberdrola firmly believes that sports are one of the essential vehicles for promoting equality. Consequently, since 2016, it has been the main supporter of women's sports. Currently, it supports 35 national federations and sponsors more than 160 competitions. With its commitment over these eight years, it has contributed to an over 80% increase in membership of these federations, reaching nearly 820,000 members.

Its focus is not exclusively on elite athletes and federated members. For this reason, it annually celebrates the aforementioned Iberdrola Supera Awards, endowed with a total of 300,000 euros distributed among six categories. It is also promoting actions complementary to mere sponsorships, such as organizing sporting events or communication campaigns, including its Iberdrola Ambassadors program.

The energy company's support also extends to Paralympic sports. Since its inception in 2005, it has collaborated with the Support Plan for Paralympic Sports (ADOP) of the Spanish Paralympic Committee (CPE) to provide our athletes with the best conditions for their preparation and ensure successful participation in all competitions.

Additionally, through its Foundation in Spain and alongside CPE, Iberdrola offers university and postgraduate scholarships to Paralympic athletes benefiting from the ADOP Plan. This collaboration agreement aims to facilitate professional training for athletes towards their future employment integration once their sports careers are over.

Finally, it should be noted that Iberdrola is one of the companies collaborating with Universo Mujer, a comprehensive initiative for women's development and personal growth within society that aims to develop initiatives contributing to social improvement and transformation through the values of all women's sports.
