The Elda City Council, through the Department of Environment, has announced the start of Reforestation Week 2025, which began today, February 10th, and will conclude on February 15th. This initiative, which has become a tradition in the city, aims to raise awareness about the importance of reforestation and the conservation of natural spaces, inviting active community participation.
The councillor for the area, Cristina Rodríguez, highlighted the City Council's commitment to improving Elda's natural environment, especially emphasising the involvement of educational centres. "Reforestation Week is an opportunity for citizens, especially the younger ones, to get directly involved in caring for our environment. Planting a tree is a simple yet significant gesture that helps improve air quality, increase biodiversity, and create more pleasant spaces for everyone," the councillor noted.
Throughout the week, various planting activities will be carried out in different parts of the city, with the collaboration of Miguel Cervantes, Pintor Sorolla, Antonio Machado, Carmelitas, Miguel Hernández, and Miguel Servet schools. The participation dynamic involves two schools per day, each in two shifts, with approximately 50 students per session. This massive participation allows a large number of students to engage in the importance of conserving local forests and ecosystems.
"The involvement of educational centres is crucial to sowing the seed of environmental awareness in new generations. We are very grateful for the enthusiasm and dedication of the participating schools, whose commitment is an example for the entire community," added Rodríguez.
The Department of Environment encourages sharing photos and experiences on social media using the hashtag #ReforestaElda2025.
Reforestation Week 2025 reaffirms the commitment of Elda's Department of Environment to sustainability, citizen participation, and environmental education, which are fundamental pillars for building a greener future for the city.
