Alicante General Hospital has welcomed a new batch of healthcare professionals in training. This includes a hundred residents—comprising medical, nursing, pharmacy, and biology staff—who recently selected their positions within the Specialised Health Training programme.

In total, 102 professionals in training will join: 84 Medical Interns (MIR), two biologists (BIR), four pharmacists (FIR), and 12 Nursing Residents (EIR). All of them participated in a welcome ceremony held at the Alicante hospital this Friday.

Among this group of healthcare professionals is the first resident in the entire country to choose a position in the medical specialisation of Allergy, with the number 684; as well as the first Family and Community Medicine position chosen in the entire Community, with the number 654.

Additionally, the first ten residents who opted for the Dr. Balmis General Hospital did so with an order number below 1,000. The first two specialisations chosen were Cardiology, with the number 56, and Anaesthesiology with 104.

Various nationalities

Among the new residents are professionals from various nationalities, including Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Italy, and Venezuela. The welcome ceremony featured speeches from Dr. Isabel Belinchón, head of studies and president of the Teaching Commission; Dr. Diego Díez, medical director of Dr. Balmis Hospital; Mª Remedio Yáñez, director of Nursing; and Dr. Cristina Brocal, medical director of Primary Care.

Following the institutional welcome, the Common Transversal Plan for Residents (PTCR) commenced, which will be conducted over two weeks and is aimed at all specialists in Health Sciences training. This plan covers fundamental topics such as clinical research, rational use of antibiotics, confidentiality in healthcare, patient safety, infection prevention, and the communication of bad news, providing an integral view of professional practice.
