The Spanish Basketball National Team has officially announced its squad for the upcoming EuroBasket 2025 qualifying window, with the standout inclusion of young forward Hugo González from Real Madrid. The 19-year-old player is one of the brightest prospects in Spanish basketball and will have the opportunity to debut with the senior team in matches against Latvia and Belgium.
Coach Sergio Scariolo has called up 13 players, with three additional invitees: Jaime Fernández, Guillem Ferrando, and Lucas Langarita. Although Spain has already secured its qualification for EuroBasket, these matches remain crucial for continuing the team's renewal process and providing young talents with valuable experience.
The team will gather on Monday, February 17, in Guadalajara to prepare for the qualifying matches. The first game will be against Latvia on February 20 in Riga, and the second against Belgium on February 23 in León. Both matches will be decisive in determining the final order of Group C, although Spain is already qualified for EuroBasket 2025, which will take place from August 27 to September 14 this year in Cyprus, Finland, Poland, and Latvia.
Sergio Scariolo emphasized the importance of continuing to work with the new generation of players, such as Hugo González, to ensure the future of the national team: "Although we have already achieved qualification, these commitments remain important in our evolution. We will continue to give minutes to young players who are the heritage of Spanish basketball."
The squad also reflects a mix of experience and youth, with seasoned players like Brizuela, Parra, and López-Arostegui, who were European champions in 2022. The presence of players like Hugo González, joining this elite group, marks the future of the team, which aims to continue achieving success in international competitions.
