The Alicante City Council's Municipal Housing Patronage has approved the public tender for the comprehensive renewal of the seven elevators yet to be replaced in the San Blas social housing, for nearly 330,000 euros, out of the 16 set for modernization. The first four replaced on Antonio Martín Trenco Street are already in service, while a fifth is being replaced and four more are being improved on the nearby San Raimundo Street, with the control panels being changed, all under the first contract awarded for another 300,000 euros.
The Municipal Housing Patronage began the process in August 2023 to renew all the elevators in the social housing park located in San Blas, a total of 12 complete elevators on Antonio Martín Trenco Street, plus the modernization of another four with the change of control panels on San Raimundo Street. A total of 16 elevators are being worked on, some of which are 35 years old, prompting their complete renewal.

The Councillor for Housing, Carlos de Juan, explained that "we are immersed in the process of renewing and updating all the elevators in the San Blas social housing to improve tenant safety and accessibility, with an expenditure that, in total, for the two ongoing contracts, will exceed 600,000 euros." "We are now completing the first, while the actions for the second, which includes the total renewal of 7 elevators on Antonio Martín Trenco Street, are being tendered."
Four already in service
Specifically, the four elevators that were put into operation this Friday correspond to the numbers on Antonio Martín Trenco Street: 8 staircase A, 10 staircase A, 12 staircase B, and 14 staircase D. Carlos de Juan emphasized that the replacement works for a fifth elevator, which served these staircases while the other four were being replaced, corresponding to number 8 staircase C, have also begun.
Regarding the modernization works of the elevators on San Raimundo Street, at entrances number 17 and 19, the Councillor for Housing commented that those at number 17 are completed, pending authorization from the Industry, and those corresponding to number 19 began on the 14th of this month of May. In these cases, residents are not left without service, as one elevator always operates in each staircase.
This public tender for the renewal of the elevators that have been put into operation and those being finalized was awarded to the company Otis Mobility S.A. for 299,873.57 euros in two lots, divided into 111,230.46 euros for the first and 128,671.40 for the second, totaling 299,873.57 euros.
Seven more
At the same time, the Housing Patronage has put out to tender the second contract for 329,953.09 euros, in two lots, for the comprehensive renewal of the seven remaining elevators in the entrances of Antonio Martín Trenco Street to complete all these facilities in the San Blas social housing buildings. This involves the comprehensive renewal of three elevators located at number 8, staircase B, number 10 staircase B, and number 12 staircase A, as well as four others at number 14, staircases A, B, C, and E.
"With this renewal of the elevators in the social housing buildings of the Patronage in the San Blas neighborhood, the rehabilitation operations of vacant homes and the new social housing promotions for general or young rental being promoted, it allows the current municipal social housing park to be updated and expanded with new units to improve the offer and provide greater coverage to people and families in need, with a special emphasis on helping young people emancipate by accessing housing," commented De Juan.
