Hosbec and Iberdrola have taken a significant step towards sustainability in the Valencian Community's hotel sector with an agreement signed on Thursday. The hotel association and the energy company have entered into a collaboration agreement that will enable associated hotels to convert investments in energy efficiency into direct income through Energy Savings Certificates (CAE).

This system, which has recently arrived in Spain, represents a true revolution for the sector. Through the CAE, establishments can receive financial compensation for each kilowatt-hour saved thanks to improvements such as lighting changes, installation of aerothermal systems, electrification of kitchens, or renovation of climate control equipment, among others. For each kWh saved, the hotel can obtain a CAE and sell it to gain a direct return on its investment.

The signing of the agreement was attended by the president of Hosbec, Fede Fuster, and the delegate of Iberdrola in the Valencian Community, Joaquín Longares. Both entities have highlighted the importance of having a clear roadmap in terms of decarbonisation and energy efficiency, as well as the key role of the tourism sector in the ecological transition.

This is not the first time Hosbec and Iberdrola have collaborated in the energy field. They have previously worked together on the installation of charging points for electric vehicles and agreements that have allowed hoteliers to negotiate better supply conditions. However, this new framework represents a milestone for its ability to directly transform energy savings into tangible economic benefits for businesses.

The agreement includes the development of a platform that will allow sectoral analysis of the energy savings potential of hotels in the Valencian Community. This tool will provide Hosbec with a precise overview of investments already made and those that can be carried out in the future to maximise the benefits of the CAE.

Additionally, informational sessions will be organised for associated establishments to explain the system's operation, present practical cases, and resolve doubts. Personalised diagnostics will also be conducted in some hotels to identify energy saving opportunities and their subsequent monetisation.

"For years, the sector has made great efforts to improve the efficiency of its facilities. Now it is time to capitalise on those investments," said Fede Fuster, who emphasised that this tool not only helps reduce the carbon footprint but also improves business profitability.

The CAE system is part of a set of measures promoted by both public and private sectors to accelerate the decarbonisation of the productive fabric. Iberdrola will also facilitate actions with automatic discounts on the energy bills of companies and SMEs, provided they involve savings and replacement of fossil fuel-based technologies.

With more than 374 members representing over 115,000 tourist places, Hosbec is one of the main economic drivers of the Valencian Community. This new step in energy management allows for a future where efficiency and profitability go hand in hand in the tourism industry.
