New historical record of visitors at Santa Bárbara Castle. In 2024, more than 950,000 people visited the Alicante fortress, a 17% increase from the previous year, which saw around 811,904 tourists.
According to data released this Tuesday by the Alicante Tourism Board, six out of ten people who visited Santa Bárbara Castle this year did so for the first time, and 70% of them are aged between 18 and 55.
The most numerous visitors were British and French, accounting for 10.38% and 10.25% of the visitors, respectively. They are followed by Polish, Italian, German, Dutch, and Norwegian as the main nationalities. August recorded the highest influx with around 10,000 visits, followed by July with over 98,000, and April, coinciding with Easter, when 96,000 people visited the fortress.

The Alicante Tourism Department has highlighted the range of activities offered at the castle as one of the reasons for this surge in visitors. The councillor responsible for the area has listed some, such as "guided and theatrical tours, concerts, themed weekends, activities, and workshops," which "have delivered spectacular results."
Poquet has stated that "we are delighted because our main heritage and tourist bastion is lively every day, encouraging more people to discover and enjoy it, which also means greater awareness to value and preserve it." Looking ahead to 2025, the tourism councillor has announced that "we continue to work towards unveiling the accessibility and innovation initiatives that will be crucial for the most visited monument in the Comunitat."
Santa Bárbara Castle offers a wide programme of activities throughout the year, including guided and theatrical tours, four themed weekends, concerts, monologues, exhibitions, magic shows, storytelling, and games for children. It also offers tastings of local products throughout the year.
