A historic train made a stop in an Alicante municipality to showcase to a group of English tourists the splendour of a bygone era. The convoy has shifted its use over the past century to focus on tourist routes.

The city of Alcoi was one of the stops for this historic train, which is undertaking a special journey across Spain. This route travels through the north and east of Spain, and after visiting the province of Alicante, it headed towards Madrid.

It is there where the locomotives that make up the convoy - the ALCo 2150 and ALCo 1603 - along with several first and second-class passenger cars, are used for the 'Philip II Train', which connects Madrid with El Escorial.

These trains are in "perfect condition" and decades later continue to operate with exclusive trips organised by the English tour operator PTG Tours in collaboration with Alsa Rail.

The historic train visited the city of Alcoi this Thursday after arriving from Valencia. The passengers, a group of Britons, also toured the Modernism. One of the main attractions was the 'Villalonga' locomotive, located in the Al-Azraq square.

This machine served on the old line between Alcoi and Gandía from 1893 to 1969. The narrow-gauge railway was known as 'the English train' due to its British origin.

In addition to the visit to the city of Alcoi, the passengers of the historic train "were impressed with the landscapes of the route," explained the Councillor for Tourism, Lorena Zamorano, who highlighted the first contact with the organising company of these trips to repeat the experience during the Modernist Fair or the Moors and Christians festivals.
