Operation 'Twilight' concluded with a high-risk pursuit to put an end to a criminal gang from Alicante, specialised in home burglaries. This reckless escape attempt occurred in the Region of Murcia, where the alleged members of this clan were arrested in a joint operation between the Civil Guard and the Local Police.

Following an investigation by the Murcian Civil Guard, after detecting an increase in home burglaries in the municipalities of Lorca and Puerto Lumbreras, the officers managed to anticipate the movements of this criminal group based in Alicante - from where they travelled to the Guadalentín Valley area - and apprehend them.

The arrest of three members of this alleged network took place a few days ago. Civil Guard investigators detected the presence of a vehicle used by the suspects in the municipality of Lorca. Upon detecting this movement, with the swift collaboration of various Local Police units, they established a surveillance operation in the area that proved successful.

The Civil Guard located the suspects' vehicle as it travelled along the Águilas road, heading towards Lorca. When the officers attempted to stop the car, its occupants abruptly fled at high speed, driving recklessly and endangering other road users.

During their escape, the suspects intentionally collided with several police vehicles to avoid arrest. However, the officers intercepted the car, preventing it from posing a greater risk to both themselves and pedestrians in the area of the operation.

The operation culminated in the arrest of the three car occupants as alleged perpetrators of crimes including membership in a criminal group, home burglaries, damage, forgery of license plates, and assault on a law enforcement officer. They are suspected of being responsible for around twenty criminal acts, with further involvement in other crimes and additional individuals not ruled out.

Home Burglaries

This criminal group based in Alicante travelled to the Murcian towns of Lorca and Puerto Lumbreras to allegedly commit home burglaries, which caused social alarm among the population of the Guadalentín Valley. The burglaries alerted Civil Guard officers, who initiated the investigation.

Thorough technical inspections and other inquiries conducted by Murcian officers provided numerous clues about the authorship of the burglaries and their modus operandi.

The alleged perpetrators conducted a prior study of their targets and, after ensuring no one was home, entered by breaking perimeter fences and forcing security systems such as window and door bars and CCTV circuits.

Once inside the property, the perpetrators quickly searched all rooms to seize money and jewellery, although in some burglaries they also stole technological equipment.

As the investigation progressed, other criminal acts attributable to the same criminal group occurred, allowing investigators to establish patterns regarding schedules, modus operandi, and areas of operation, which also enabled them to anticipate the criminal group's movements.

Seized Material

After apprehending them on the Águilas road and proceeding with their arrest, Civil Guard officers seized numerous objects and items the perpetrators carried for the alleged commission of home burglaries.

Among them, a hydraulic cutter used to cut bars; crowbars used to pry open; screwdrivers to force locks; walkie-talkies for communication within the criminal group; caps and tubular scarves to conceal their identity and avoid identification; and several sets of license plates used to hinder the connection of vehicles to the criminal acts they committed. Additionally, over 3,000 euros in cash were seized.
