Hercules returns to training this Thursday after the Christmas break, focusing on the match against Betis B on January 12th, which will take place at Rico Pérez at 17:30. The team is fully concentrated on reaching their best form for this crucial match to return to the promotion zone, as Betis B holds the second position and is a key rival to beat. However, the main challenge for coach Rubén Torrecilla this January is to shield the players from the swirl of rumours that arise whenever the transfer window opens.

Moreover, Hercules plans to make moves, and several new faces are expected. Any arrival of a player over 23 years old will mean the departure of another, as all slots are filled. This situation is one of the major concerns for technical secretary Paco Peña. The atmosphere in the dressing room is very positive after maintaining much of the squad that achieved promotion, but it is evident that there will be painful departures that must be managed in the best possible way.

The main candidate to leave is forward Marcos Mendes, who has been sidelined following Dani Romera's recovery. Romera ended 2024 with two goals against Alcoyano and Atlético Sanluqueño. Meanwhile, Argentine Coscia is untouchable as he has performed well despite often playing too isolated. The Rosario striker has played 15 matches and scored three goals.

Mendes has not yet scored, and the step up in category has taken its toll. The Guinea-Bissau striker was left without minutes in the last matches of 2024 and will leave as he has a good reputation after achieving two promotions to Primera RFEF with Tarazona and Hercules, with notable goal-scoring records (13 goals per season).

Torrecilla and Peña must agree in this market, always with the approval of owner Enrique Ortiz, who provides the funds and is eager to reach professional football, as he publicly stated during the Christmas toast. Torrecilla is clear that to fight for promotion, several new pieces must arrive as there is a lack of experience in defence. Many points have slipped away far from Alicante in matches that were in their favour, and the coach would welcome competitive and experienced players for the left-back position and the centre of defence, as well as a natural replacement for Mario García after Franck Angong's failed experiment.

Based on the matches played, Abraham del Moral's continuity is also in doubt because injuries have only allowed him minutes in four games, and he occupies a senior slot. He has not been a real alternative to Retu at left-back, and Torrecilla has not tried him as a centre-back, as all minutes have gone to Josema, Montoro, and Sotillos.

Finally, it is assumed that young players like Dapaah, Cantero, De Palmas, or the aforementioned Angong will leave in search of playing time to avoid ending the season without any appearances.
