Hercules has responded swiftly and effectively to last week's defeat in Murcia with impressive football. The team transitioned from leaving La Nueva Condomina without creating chances to departing Marbella with two goals and a clear sense of offensive improvement.
The Alicante side secured a 1-2 victory over Marbella this Saturday, a result that falls short of reflecting Torrecilla's team's merits, especially in the second half.
From the initial whistle, it was evident that Hercules was eager to make amends for their disappointing performance in Murcia. They dominated from the kickoff and soon began to corner their opponent, who was debuting a new coach and had significant defensive absences. The white-and-blues capitalized on a gap in the right flank to quickly tip the balance. Nico Espinosa and Aranda repeatedly outmaneuvered Puñal, leading to the first goal.
Romera capitalized on a fortunate header from Nico Espinosa to bypass the goalkeeper and, with the help of defender Yac Diori, scored the first goal of the afternoon.
It seemed Hercules could win convincingly, but Marbella began to grow after the goal, led by José Callejón's quality. A cross from the Motril native was headed into the net by Puñal after 15 minutes.
The match was balanced, and the fear that Hercules might once again fail to maintain their lead was palpable. However, before halftime, Hercules advanced again, delivering a blow from which Marbella would not recover.
Aranda only scores spectacular goals. The former Granada and Barça B player struck the ball into the top corner, off the crossbar and in, leaving Enric Puerto helpless to prevent the 1-2.
In the second half, Hercules confirmed their superiority, and only a lack of precision prevented them from securing a comfortable away victory. Romera had two clear chances, and Aranda had two more. Saves by Eric Puerto and the crossbar denied the Alicante team a clear victory.
Marbella attempted to threaten with set pieces in the final stretch, but without any dangerous shots on Carlos Abad's goal.
The victory places Hercules third in the standings, awaiting the results of Merida and Atlético de Madrid B, among others. However, the sensations are very positive. They win away from home again, three and a half months after their last triumph in Algeciras.
The downside of the match is that Abraham Del Moral had to be taken to a hospital to treat a 10-centimeter cut on his right knee.
