Heavy rains returned to Alicante province this Sunday, with the north experiencing relatively intense rainfall. The Marina Alta recorded 37 litres per square metre in Xàbia, 32 in Vall de Laguar, and 23 in Parcent, according to the Valencian Meteorological Association Josep Peinado (Avamet).

While it rained in the north, the south remained cloudy throughout the day, with temperatures not exceeding 20 degrees even in Elche, Alicante, or Vega Baja.

However, the forecast for Monday, February 24, is more promising. According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the day will start with mostly clear skies in Alicante province. Any clouds will be high, though morning mists are not ruled out in the north.

Regarding temperatures, the most notable aspect is the rise in maximum temperatures, which will again exceed 20 degrees in the southern coast of Alicante. Towns like Elche and Orihuela will return to sunny, almost spring-like days on Monday, but generally, major towns will range between 18 and 21 degrees.

However, it will still be some time before minimum temperatures rise significantly. At the start of next week, nighttime and early morning temperatures will drop again in Alicante province. According to Aemet, temperatures will fall to 5 degrees in Alcoy and 7 in Orihuela or Elche.

As for the wind, it will blow lightly from the west, tending to be light, occasionally moderate, from the south on the coast from midday.

A "busy" week ahead

Although spring is drawing nearer, instability and cold have not yet left the province of Alicante. Next week, clear or partly cloudy skies will return, which have been hard to see in recent days. The sun will shine again across much of the region, though temperatures will be like a roller coaster.

If Monday remains above 20 degrees, Tuesday will see a slight increase, only to drop on Wednesday to around 15. A roller coaster ride where Alicante residents will need to layer up to avoid catching a cold.

The weekend could see the return of light rain showers. However, it remains to be seen how the week unfolds before planning a weekend of 'blankets and Netflix'.
