The heatwave has already begun and will last until at least next Tuesday. The highest temperatures of this episode will be recorded from this Saturday, potentially reaching 40 degrees in parts of the Alicante province.

The arrival of a warm and dry air mass from the Sahara, along with some haze, will further elevate temperatures that were already on the rise, marking the first heatwave of the summer with "very high and persistent temperatures, both nocturnal and diurnal," according to a warning from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

For this reason, Aemet has issued several warnings for high temperatures, declaring an orange alert in the northern part of Alicante province and a yellow alert in the south for both Saturday and Sunday.

High values exceeding 40 degrees are expected in some areas of the northern province, especially in the pre-coastal regions, according to Aemet, which warns that minimum temperatures "will also be significantly high." In the south, values above 36 degrees are expected.

Thus, from midday until 10:00 PM, Aemet will keep the heat alert active in both the north and south of Alicante province. The heat episode will also bring tropical nights, with minimum temperatures widely exceeding 25 degrees in the region.

Heatwave

Aemet warns that the peak days of this intense heat episode will be both Sunday and Monday, with temperatures ranging between 36 and 40 degrees in various parts of the peninsula, including Alicante province.

"From Monday 30th, there is growing uncertainty about the evolution of temperatures due to the passage of an upper-level disturbance that could increase cloudiness and induce storms in central and eastern parts of the peninsula, with little precipitation and possible very strong gusts," Aemet explains.

From the first of next month, a cooler and more humid Atlantic air mass is expected to enter, initiating a thermal decline that will spread across Spain in the following days.
