The Elda health department has launched the Minor Surgery Programme in Primary Care within the Basic Health Zone 2, covering the municipalities of Biar, Cañada, Campo de Mirra, and Beneixama.
This programme encompasses simple surgical procedures, generally of short duration, performed on superficial tissues or easily accessible structures, always under local anaesthesia, and presenting low risk during both the intervention and post-operative phases.
This initiative represents an improvement in the quality of care for patients in the region by bringing these therapeutic and diagnostic procedures closer to their health centre, thereby enhancing service quality.
In this way, a consultation room within the Biar health centre has been adapted and equipped with all necessary materials: electrosurgical units, dressing materials, sutures, etc.
The entire health centre team, including nursing, medical staff, nursing assistants, and administrative assistants, participates in the Minor Surgery circuit, streamlining the technique and sample handling, as well as improving interpersonal relationships.
During the first session, held last Friday, soft fibromas and seborrheic keratoses were treated, and cryotherapy was performed on a viral wart resistant to first-line topical treatment. Patients expressed their satisfaction with this new facility and appreciated the proximity of the primary care team.
