The Health Department has rejected the 2025-2027 Mental Health Action Plan proposed by the ministry led by Mónica García for "not having the support of scientific societies or professionals, and for not including an economic report or funding," according to a statement from the Generalitat.

The Health Minister, Marciano Gómez, accompanied by the Director General of Mental Health and Addictions, Bartolomé Pérez, attended the Extraordinary Plenary of the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System (SNS), where the Mental Health Action Plan 2025-2027 was rejected. In this regard, Gómez stated that "a plan without the endorsement of professionals is doomed to failure."

On the other hand, regarding the approval of the first national plan for suicide prevention, he noted that it is "also conditioned on its funding as we have pointed out."

A 'duplicated' plan

This is the Action Plan for Suicide Prevention over the next two years, which includes 40 measures distributed across six strategic lines to address suicide from a social determinants of health perspective.

Gómez recalled that the Valencian Community already has its own suicide plan drafted, which is in the technical consultation phase. In this regard, he emphasized that "one of the most important things at the moment is mental health" and recalled that the portfolio of services of the National Health System in the field of mental health includes promotion and prevention.

Thus, he valued "the daily work" carried out by his department, which allowed "an increase in staff last September." "We are the autonomous community with the highest rate of mental health problems in general in Spain, according to Ministry data, and the one with the worst resources. In September, the Health Department created 200 jobs, with a significant investment of 14 million euros," he stated.
