The Ministry of Health has issued a series of tips and recommendations to prevent the spread of the tiger mosquito and its bites. Avoiding water accumulation, both in small containers and areas near human presence, is key to combating these insects.

It is noted that the tiger mosquito breeds in small stagnant waters, not in rivers or large lakes. This is the main advice highlighted in 'Tiger Mosquito: The Invader', aimed at raising public awareness about the importance of taking actions to prevent its spread, as it can carry diseases such as dengue, chikungunya, or Zika.

It is important to highlight that public cooperation is crucial, as approximately 70% of cases occur on private properties. Health authorities emphasize the importance of eradicating breeding sites and keeping "all containers where water can accumulate" dry, recommending covering them with mosquito nets.

Additionally, it is recommended to regularly check drains and gutters, empty inflatable pools, and keep them disinfected. Similarly, after rains, empty objects that can collect water, such as umbrella stands, canvas folds, and other areas.

Similarly, to prevent tiger mosquito bites, it is advised to use appropriate and authorized repellents, install mosquito nets, wear long-sleeved clothing and trousers fitted at the ankle, and avoid using perfumes, as they may attract insects.

In the event of a bite, it is recommended to wash the affected area with soap and water, apply ice for 10 minutes, avoid scratching the affected area, and monitor for any subsequent infection. Some individuals may experience more severe reactions or infections, requiring medical attention. In most cases, the bite goes unnoticed, and it is the subsequent reaction that can be bothersome.

Subsidies against the tiger mosquito

To combat the tiger mosquito, the Ministry of Health has allocated a total of 350,000 euros this year in grants to municipalities to carry out treatments against significant vectors, such as the Aedes albopictus (tiger mosquito).

Last year, subsidies were provided to 410 municipalities: 233 in the province of Valencia, 93 in the province of Alicante, and 84 in the province of Castellón.
