Comedian José Mota (59, Montiel, Ciudad Real) returns once again to La 1 this New Year's Eve to bid farewell to 2024 with his annual appointment with viewers. This year's special is titled 'Operation AI AI Oh', where artificial intelligence sidelines Spanish politicians and forces them to become comedians. His parodies of current events and other shows, such as 'La revuelta', will not be missing, along with collaborations from other popular figures.

-A quarter of a century of New Year's Eve specials. Doesn't the number make you dizzy?

-No, it's very good. As long as we continue to be excited, and each year we are there, it is a sign that we are alive. It's a responsibility, but it's also very exciting.

-Do you usually watch the special on December 31st with your family?

-The question is: 'Do you watch it relaxed?'. The truth is no, and even though it's recorded and nothing is going to happen, I am aware that the special is being broadcast throughout Spain, and that entails a responsibility.

-Are you a perfectionist?

-I am quite obsessive with my work and try to handle that tool well. If you are excessively obsessive, you enter a loop and repeat the take over and over, which makes you lose freshness. The imperfect, done on the first try, is what is coolest. That's something I've learned over time, as you lose insecurities. The adrenaline of the first proposals when recording is what is cool.

-You make humour with politics. How do you think it will be received this year in such a tense atmosphere?

-When comedy goes beyond politics, politics becomes a more pleasant, more manageable, and less tense place. So, there's no reason for it to be received badly. I have never been known to be a guy who has offended anyone gratuitously. Comedy amplifies certain things to question them and treat them with humour. Any comedian who makes humour about society, or about what affects us socially or politically, is doing an important social job.

-Have you told Broncano that you are going to imitate him in the special?

-I haven't been able to cross paths with him yet. It's a tribute for the times I've been on his show, which I think I've been on up to four times. I've always had fun and laughed a lot.

-What do you think about 'La revuelta' landing on TVE?

-I love it because they are doing fresh humour, a lively television, and I think it's positive for comedy that risky proposals like this are succeeding. It's great news, and I'm happy for Broncano and his team.

-Did you understand that David Broncano's signing for TVE was politicised?

-When it gets politicised, comedy loses. That's not the case with Broncano, who has a lot of talent. He has managed to rise above those idiocies.

-How do you view the duel between 'La revuelta' and 'El hormiguero'?

-That has always existed, it's part of the competition. But I like both of them. I won't be the one to pit them against each other. I'm glad they're doing well. That comedy is thriving with these two shows seems like big news to me.

Tuesday and 13

-In your special, Josema Yuste and Millán Salcedo from Tuesday and 13 also appear. This year, the confrontation between them has been reopened.

-I think a lot of hype is given to those stories. I was with Millán watching him in the theatre, and he spoke wonders about Josema on stage. He praised him highly and talked about those news stories that are magnified. They are good colleagues. I appreciate Josema a lot, just as I do Millán. They are two greats of humour in Spain. The work they have done is above this kind of thing.

-What do you think about the new phase opening at RTVE?

-TVE is doing a great job, and I feel very comfortable. It's my home. I started in 1989, and everything that happens to TVE, important and positive things, seems wonderful to me. I feel happy.

-How do you plan to spend this Christmas?

-Very calmly. I am also preparing the new program for TVE, which I can tell you will be called 'José Mota no news'. I will have Patricia Conde, Florentino Fernández, and Santiago Segura, that's what I can say.
