In recent months, rumors have intensified suggesting Prince Harry's return to British royal family institutional events, albeit with a low profile. It seems that last year's health issues have helped his figure regain prominence. The Sussexes' failures in America may also have contributed to this return. For now, what we are seeing is that the agendas of King Charles's youngest son and his wife, Meghan Markle, are taking different directions, and they are increasingly attending events separately. Just last week, Harry visited London to attend an award ceremony for a charity foundation he patrons while Meghan traveled to Santa Barbara for the opening of the Girls Inc Center on International Day of the Girl.
Thus, Prince Harry has been very active in recent months, with several international commitments on his own. Recently, he has attended various events between New York and London and traveled to Lesotho, where he continues his charitable work with the Sentebale organization. However, Meghan's absence from these trips, particularly during his last visit to London for the WellChild awards, has raised suspicions about a possible rift in the couple.
For her part, Meghan has continued with her solo agenda. Last week, the Duchess attended an event in Santa Barbara to celebrate International Day of the Girl, participating in craft workshops with young people. However, what caught the most attention was the absence of her engagement ring, a jewel created by Harry with diamonds from Diana of Wales's collection, which has reignited rumors about possible tensions in their marriage. These types of charitable events, along with her recent appearance at the Los Angeles Children's Hospital gala, show Meghan increasingly detached from her husband in public commitments.
In any case, it seems that family projects continue and, for now, the Sussexes have two closed initiatives with Netflix: a documentary about Harry and his passion for polo and another focused on Meghan's interest in cooking and gardening.
Gone is 2020 when the Sussexes seemed destined to triumph on American soil after their historic exit from the British royal family. Harry and Meghan signed million-dollar contracts with Netflix and Spotify and began their ambitious path towards financial and media independence with great fanfare. Four years later, the couple finds themselves at a low point; although they have achieved significant successes like the autobiographical docuseries and Harry's memoirs becoming bestsellers in non-fiction. Despite this, the couple has lost power and prestige but also seems unable to balance their accounts.
During this time, the Sussexes have faced fraud accusations following their podcast cancellation on Spotify; Meghan has faced criticism for her "arrogant and bossy" behavior; their public image has deteriorated considerably. Additionally, British press reports high employee turnover rates—more than 20 resignations—which have fueled rumors of internal tensions. Furthermore, Meghan's American Riviera Orchard lifestyle project struggles as her trademark registration application was rejected. Although King Charles's daughter-in-law can appeal, it remains another stumbling block.
In contrast to the Sussexes' decline, Kate Middleton continues her recovery after completing cancer treatment and is resuming her public agenda strongly. The Princess of Wales has announced the much-anticipated Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey which will again be broadcast on ITV during Christmas Eve this year. This event titled 'Together at Christmas' has become a UK holiday tradition showcasing Kate's growing prominence.
Throughout its four editions so far this event has gained popularity; this year holds special significance following Kate’s illness. Her return to public life has been widely celebrated; this Christmas recital is expected to be both most emotional yet eagerly anticipated one so far even though she’ll continue adjusting schedule based upon recovery progress—she’s made clear focus remains upon personal wellbeing alongside role within Royal Family.
The current situation between Sussexes versus Prince/Princess Wales shows stark contrast: While Harry/Meghan still search place amidst harsh British media criticism; Kate/William strengthen future monarch positions enjoying growing popularity.
