Hansi Flick Extends Contract Until 2027

Hansi Flick's contract renewal for one more season, until June 2027, was officially announced this Wednesday, six days after Barcelona mathematically secured the La Liga title. The 60-year-old German coach signed the extension at the club's offices, just four days before Barcelona concludes the season against Athletic at San Mamés on Sunday.

The architect of Barcelona's first national treble (La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup), Hansi Flick, who came from Bayern Munich, replaced Xavi Hernández on the Barcelona bench last year. A significant bet by Joan Laporta, he initially committed to the club for two seasons, until 2026. Despite the success achieved in his first year, he has only extended his contract by one more year, as he has never been a fan of long-term commitments.

Flick and the Barcelona board are aware that if results continue to be positive, there will be no issues in maintaining their relationship. Flick has become the fifth Barcelona coach to achieve the La Liga-Copa double in his first season, following in the footsteps of Louis van Gaal, Ernesto Valverde, Pep Guardiola, and Luis Enrique.

"Undoubtedly, the only thing missing from Flick's delightful cake this season was the icing of the Champions League," Barcelona acknowledged on its website this Wednesday, after Flick's team reached the semi-finals and was eliminated by Inter after extra time in Milan.

In addition to winning three out of four possible titles, Flick's team has triumphed in all four El Clásico matches against Real Madrid this season. "Hansi Flick has brought joy to Barcelona fans in his first season. Through the attitude he has instilled in the team, memorable goals, epic comebacks, and titles. Tangibles that do not hide the intangibles. The excitement the German has sparked in his first year on the bench, turning Barcelona into one of Europe's most formidable opponents," the club highlighted.
