Unexpected and severe setback for Barça, which must find a last-minute solution to register Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, as the judge has decided to deny the precautionary measure requested by the Blaugrana club to keep these players for the upcoming year.
The entity led by Joan Laporta has one recourse left to ensure both players can continue playing in Blaugrana colours and not become free agents able to sign with another club when the winter market opens on January 2nd.
Next Monday, December 30th, Barça will file a new lawsuit against LaLiga in a first-instance court to attempt to secure the precautionary measure, allowing Olmo and Pau Víctor to remain available to coach Hansi Flick in the second and crucial part of the season.
The club's lawyers will argue that all registration rules are invalid as they are regulated by a body deemed incompetent, namely the LaLiga Delegate Commission. However, time is against the Catalans, as they have until Tuesday, December 31st, to register Olmo in the competition.
The decision by Judge Ignacio Fernández de Senespleda, head of the 10th Commercial Court of Barcelona, comes after last Monday's hearing, where lawyers from the Blaugrana club and LaLiga were summoned at the Ciutat de la Justícia in Barcelona to present their arguments following the lawsuit filed by the Blaugrana club. Barça had maintained silence on the matter, hoping for a favourable judicial resolution that would allow Dani Olmo's registration, but this has not been the case.
Barça appealed to the right to work for Olmo and Pau Víctor, arguing that they could use the remaining salary from Ter Stegen, amounting to around 14 million, to register both reinforcements. Both would fit within this surplus, but LaLiga considered that the rule allowing a player to be registered for an injured one is clear and only permits substitution, not the addition of new players. It should be noted that Barça used the long-term injury of the German goalkeeper to register the Polish Wojciech Szczesny, who is yet to debut.
