Grandfather Sentenced to Prison for Abusing 9-Year-Old Granddaughter in Alicante

The horror experienced by a 9-year-old girl in April 2020, who suffered sexual abuse at the hands of her own grandfather, has now resulted in a conviction. The Third Section of the Provincial Court of Alicante has sentenced the offender to four years and three months in prison. The court found him guilty of sexual abuse of a minor, considering the mitigating circumstance of undue delays.

Additionally, the court has ordered him to pay 15,000 euros in compensation to the victim for moral damages and the impact of the abuse on her psychological development. The convicted man is prohibited from approaching within 500 meters or communicating by any means with the girl for nine years.

The incident occurred on the night of April 16, 2020, when the girl spent the night at her grandfather's house, an Alicante residence where a cousin, then 13, and her mother also lived. According to the verdict, the children took advantage of the grandmother's absence that night to sleep together in the matrimonial bed.

In the early hours, the convicted man entered the room and, after ensuring the child was asleep, carried her to his bed, where he molested her. Upon waking, the girl told the man she did not like what he was doing, and he returned her to the bed where her cousin was, to whom the victim recounted the incident.

The sentence is not final and can be appealed to the Civil and Criminal Chamber of the High Court of Justice of the Valencian Community (TSJCV), as reported by the Valencian High Court.
