Controversy this matchday did not occur on the pitch. On Saturday, a regrettable incident took place at Montilivi Stadium just before Girona's victory over Espanyol (4-1). Michel's team delivered one of their best performances, scoring four goals in the first half, but the image of the match was captured outside the stadium.
As is common in regional derbies, many Espanyol fans travelled to Montilivi Stadium to support their team, although not all were seated in the away section. In a video shared on X, an Espanyol supporter expressed his discontent with Girona's security measures, as stadium security did not allow a five-year-old Espanyol fan to enter the Girona stadium wearing an Espanyol shirt simply because he was not in the designated away fan area.

The father's account is very harsh: "The boy had to take off his Espanyol shirt because they said he couldn't enter with it. A five-year-old boy," he began in the video complaint. After the boy removed his shirt, the adult addressed him and continued to ironically comment on the situation. "It's terribly dangerous, everyone could die because you're wearing the Espanyol shirt," he remarked.
"In my life, you will never sign for Girona. Never. You will stay in Gironés, and then you will move to another team," the father is heard saying in the video, clearly outraged by the situation. In the same video, a Girona security member is heard justifying his actions, saying, "I feel very bad... I feel very bad, sir."
The permanent commission of the State Commission against Violence, Racism, Xenophobia, and Intolerance in Sport declared this Thursday that the Girona-Espanyol match in LaLiga EA Sports is a high-risk event.
