The Generalitat Valenciana, through the Department of Infrastructure, is preparing substantial changes in metropolitan mobility for Alicante and its surrounding area. This revolution aims to turn the provincial capital into a communication hub from which connections will branch out to its surroundings and the main cities of the province, especially towards the north. To the south, the priority is the connection with the airport and Elche, for which the Torrellano bypass, which has already received positive feedback from the Government, will be necessary.
The core of the entire public transport system will be the Alicante Intermodal Station, an infrastructure that will encompass train, bus, and tram services. There is already an agreement between the three administrations (Alicante City Council, Generalitat Valenciana, and Government of Spain) for the land transfer and an initial design featuring two underground levels: a lobby and platforms.
The first infrastructure to materialize this model change will be ready sooner: the Central Tram Station, which will connect Tram lines with AVE and Cercanías under the current railway terminal, could be ready by 2028.
