The completion works of the Southern Ring Road (EL-20) are drawing closer after the Valencian Government, through the Department of Environment, has put out to tender the basic and construction project for a total of 376,000 euros with an execution period of 15 months, according to the Elche City Council.
The Mayor of Elche, Pablo Ruz, described it as "very good news for the city" and recalled that "the current ring road was completed ten years ago, leaving two kilometers unfinished, which between 2015 and 2023 nothing was done to complete it, and despite being a project under State jurisdiction, it is the Valencian Government that will take charge of it."
The Consell had already awarded the preliminary drafting of the project where some new adaptations such as roundabouts to provide access to the Vinalopó Hospital from the Southern Ring Road were defined. According to the timelines, the works will be awarded in 2026 and are expected to begin in 2027 with an approximate budget of 36 million euros, to which the cost of expropriations, around 8 million euros, will be added.
In this regard, Ruz pointed out that "we have already started and are working on these expropriation files, a complex task as there are 64 properties to be informed after the summer," and added that "these expropriations will initially be covered by the City Council and then we will exert all the pressure for the State to pay for them as it should."
