The Department of Environment, Infrastructure and Territory is allocating more than 20 million euros in 2025 to consolidate the Generalitat's forest fire prevention surveillance service.
The Directorate General for Forest Fire Prevention has implemented a unique surveillance and prevention model in Spain and almost worldwide, following the devastating fires of 1994 that ravaged over 138,000 hectares in our region.

Since then, highlighted the councillor, Vicente Martínez Mus, the Valencian Community leads in preventive surveillance against fires with a firm commitment from the Generalitat to prevention and control efforts, because preventing fires is the greatest task due to the economic savings it entails, the direct protection of our forests, and the safety of people.
Thanks to this device, the number of forest fires has decreased from over 700 annual cases three decades ago to 114 recorded so far in 2025.
This service, managed in collaboration with Vaersa, includes functions such as meteorological monitoring and fire risk assessment, as well as deterrent surveillance and public information. It is also responsible for detecting forest fires, deploying a rapid response to locate the fire, facilitating access for firefighting resources, controlling the fire's progress, and providing support during extinguishing efforts.

Currently, the service comprises 464 professionals and 259 resources deployed throughout the Valencian Community. This network includes 65 forest observatories, 138 prevention units, 10 maintenance units in safety zones, provincial and regional structures, prevention centres, the SIGIF (Integrated Forest Fire Management System), a technical analysis unit, and a training and volunteer team, in addition to helicopter and drone support.

Thanks to this device, the number of forest fires has decreased from over 700 annual cases three decades ago to 114 recorded so far in 2025. Additionally, the affected area has significantly reduced: from over 100,000 hectares to just 60 in the first six months of the year.
