The Generalitat and the Alicante Provincial Council have signed a "historic" agreement to invest over 15.5 million euros in water reuse. Carlos Mazón, President of the Generalitat, stated that "collaboration and joint efforts" between the two will consolidate the leadership of the Valencian Community in water reuse.
Following the signing of the agreement with the President of the Alicante Provincial Council, Toni Pérez, supported by the Public Entity for Wastewater Sanitation of the Valencian Community (EPSAR), the Valencian government "will cover 90% of the works" with its own investment of over 14.2 million euros.
Meanwhile, the Alicante Provincial Council will finance the drafting of construction projects and the management of works, as well as 10% of the execution costs for actions in locally owned treatment plants.
Specifically, nine comprehensive renovation or partial reform interventions will be carried out, 10 improvement or partial reform actions in treatment plants, four actions for the supply and replacement of electromechanical equipment, and the adaptation of sanitation systems in four stations.
Additionally, more than 200 million euros of own funds will be mobilized to modernize wastewater treatment systems with the aim of making the Valencian Community a zero-discharge area in water matters.

Through this agreement, 5.1 million euros will be allocated for comprehensive renovation or new construction in the municipalities of La Vall de Laguar, Sanet y Negrals, Orba, Gorga, Tibi, Gata de Gorgos, San Miguel de Salinas, and Villena (Estación and Virtudes neighborhood).
On the other hand, improvement or partial reform works will be carried out in the towns of Benferri, Llíber, Benijófar, Murla, Benigembla, Planes, Tárbena, Benilloba, Finestrat, and La Romana. These actions have a total budget of 5.3 million euros.
Additionally, 800,000 euros will be allocated for new equipment supplies in the Bolulla treatment plant and the Hurchillo, Torremendo, and Barbarroja treatment plants in the town of Orihuela. Regarding the reform of sanitation systems, actions will be taken in the municipality of Altea (Golf, Mascarat, and Toix-Mascarat treatment plants) and the Benitachell station with a total value of 3.4 million euros.
During the agreement, Mazón emphasized "the joint work" between the Provincial Councils and the Generalitat "as the basis of our territorial wealth at the service of citizens to improve their quality of life, generate economic activity, and create employment."
In this regard, he also highlighted the coordination with the Alicante Provincial Council regarding the Generalitat's assumption of responsibilities in mental health matters at the Doctor Esquerdo center, "a historic demand" that will allow Alicante to have the first city in mental health in the Valencian Community to offer better care to patients in the province.
