The Elche City Council has completed the comprehensive renovation works of the surroundings of the San Crispín Hermitage. This project aims to provide a new multifunctional green space in this area of Carrús, adjacent to the industrial estate and several public training centres.
Specifically, there are over 1,000 square metres of garden, featuring new LED lighting, tree planting, and the addition of drip irrigation, urban furniture, and children's play areas. According to Mayor Pablo Ruz, the goal is for this large space to become a "meeting and coexistence place for the people of Elche, with shaded and resting areas." In this regard, he explained that in this action "it was decided not to asphalt the entire environment for environmental reasons, and to reinforce the gravel."
"The action brings life to this large public space, which is a place of influx throughout the year, but mainly in October due to the San Crispín pilgrimage, the patron saint of shoemakers," Ruz stated, announcing that this space will pay tribute to Rafael Bernabéu, founder of J'hayber, "one of the people who has made the footwear sector great with his life, work, effort, dedication, and example."

Thus, he pointed out that "we want to thank him and the entrepreneurs who have done so much for footwear in Elche, and doing it here is a gesture, a symbol of gratitude from the city to those who have made Elche great over the past nearly 100 years."
The action involves an investment of 140,000 euros, through a grant from the Valencian Institute of Business Competitiveness (Ivace).
