Álvaro Morata is in negotiations with Galatasaray, as officially announced by the Turkish team this Sunday. Should the deal be finalized, the Spanish forward will embark on his seventh experience with a different club in his fourth country. After joining AC Milan just six months ago, he could secure a move to the Turkish side through a loan with a mandatory purchase option of 15 million euros.
Morata, who signed with the Italian club in the summer for 13 million euros and had a contract until 2028, has not fully adapted to the situation at the Italian club, marked by instability and the constant search for another forward. Additionally, the relationship with the new coach, Portuguese Sergio Conceicao, seems to have been another key factor in his desire to leave. During his time in Milan, Morata has scored six goals in 24 matches.
Although he plays, the Spanish forward is not completely satisfied with the role assigned to him by Conceicao within the team's tactical setup. The attacking duties do not align with his expectations, leading to a sense of mismatch.
If an agreement is reached, Morata would move to Istanbul to join Galatasaray, where he would share the dressing room with stars like Nigerian Victor Osimhen, who will fight to be the new starter, although he still belongs to Napoli, and Mauro Icardi. The deal would place the captain of the Spanish national team on a similar economic level to Osimhen (900,000 euros net per month), Galatasaray's star reinforcement last summer, although on loan. Icardi is on a secondary salary level. Morata's salary would exceed what he earns at Milan.
With this signing, the club from the Galata district would strengthen its squad with an experienced forward to face the Turkish Super League, which it leads, and the Europa League, where it would meet AZ Alkmaar in the round of 32 playoffs.
This move would also mark a new turn in Morata's career, the footballer who has generated the most money in transfers in the history of Spanish football, accumulating a total of 210 million euros in his transfers, with previous stints at Atlético Madrid, Getafe, Real Madrid, Juventus, Chelsea, Milan, and now, Galatasaray.
Regarding Spanish players with the highest transfer figures, Fernando Torres follows at a distant second with 97.5 million. Globally, Morata is the fifth footballer with the most money moved in transfers, behind Neymar (400 million), Lukaku (369 million), Cristiano Ronaldo (247 million), and Ousmane Dembélé (220 million).
