The National Police have arrested a fugitive in a hotel in Alicante who was subject to a European Arrest Warrant for Extradition (EAW) issued by Greek authorities for a crime against property, committed between 2009 and 2013.
Through the Intelligent Command, Communication and Control Centre, Cimacc-091, it was discovered that a guest staying at a city hotel had a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) issued by Greek authorities. Consequently, a Citizen Security patrol was dispatched to locate and arrest the fugitive, who was found at the hotel.
The officers found the fugitive in his room, and after confirming his identity and the existence of the European arrest warrant, they arrested him and took him to police custody.
The fugitive had fled Greek justice after being sentenced to six years and 18 months of imprisonment for burglary and theft. The crimes were committed between 2009 and 2013 in the Greek cities of Alexandroupoli and Athens. The arrested individual was part of a criminal organisation dedicated to burglaries in homes, primarily stealing electronic devices.
Thanks to the exchange of information and the effective coordination between police authorities from other countries and the National Police, the arrest of this individual was successfully carried out. The detainee was brought before the Central Court of Instruction of the National Court, the body responsible for executing the extradition order.
