Officers from the National Police have arrested a fugitive at Málaga airport who was wanted by Belgian authorities for involvement in a terrorist attack that took place in October 2023 in Brussels. The attack occurred just before a football match between the national teams of Sweden and Belgium, resulting in the deaths of two people and injuring several others. Belgian authorities consider him the person who allegedly provided the attacker with the firearm used in the incident.
The events leading to the arrest date back to October 2023, when a football match between Sweden and Belgium was about to take place. Moments before, two Swedish fans were shot dead in a Brussels square, and several others were injured. The now-detained individual is believed to have been involved by supplying the firearm to the attacker, who was later shot by Belgian police.
Yesterday, National Police officers apprehended the fugitive at Málaga airport as he was about to board a flight to leave the country.
The fugitive could face a life sentence as he is wanted by Belgian authorities for charges of terrorist attack, murder, and serious injury.
