A luxury car thief had vanished from the radar of German authorities since June 2019. He was subject to a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) for vehicle theft, facing up to 15 years in prison. After more than five years on the run, the National Police apprehended him in Torrevieja.

Officers arrested the 33-year-old fugitive when he visited the premises for administrative procedures, according to investigative sources. The crimes for which he was sought were committed in 2018 in the German town of Monheim.

The fugitive was part of an organised gang dedicated to stealing high-end vehicles in Germany, which were then transported to Poland for sale, all valued at 385,000 euros, the same sources added.

The detainee, after police proceedings, has been placed at the disposal of the Central Investigating Court of the National Court, the body responsible for carrying out the procedures for his subsequent extradition.
